Ms. Officer

Did I ever tell you guys that I'm a security guard? lol. Yep, that's my job at the lovely Krannert Art Gallery. I get to have a walkie-talkie and everything! [insert sarcasm]...But believe me, the job isn't as exciting as it sounds. There are never any attempted thefts of paintings or sculptures, thus no necessary tackling maneuvers. The most action I ever get is on "Kids @ Krannert Day", when children were allowed to come to the museum and do crafts, while us guards prayed they don’t put their dirty little hands on the exhibits. So, most of the time I'm pretty much standing around twiddling my thumbs.

Sidenote: I know you guys are probably wondering why I complain about a job where I get paid to do next to nothing. That's precisely the point. Boring jobs are the worst kind. But I actually have grown to enjoy the quiet solitude of the museum. I love it there.

So, I figured since I'm always mentioning my job anyway, why not give you guys a virtual tour. Enjoy!

I know these are some pretty lame close-ups, but I wanted to see my camera's zoom ability and quality. Me likey!

I'm not gonna lie. I was just really thirsty to use my new camera lol.

@ latoya: lol thanks! i just got it last week and i haven't quite had the chance to break it in yet.

@ camila: it's a 8 mega-pixel canon powershot sd750. all cannons are a worthy investment though. this one was 130. but i know target was selling kodak 8 mega-pixel digital cameras for 85 dollars. don't know if they still are but you should definitely check it out!

@ antithesis: lol thanks girly. These are just test runs. I do take photographs as a hobby using my minolta maxum plus. it's not a digital camera though, which is why i'm so psyched to have one. i might upload my "real" photography someday lol.

These are good pics. I'm actually surprised they let you take pics there. Usually museums are uber strict about that (something about tons of flash fading the art over time).

@ youngblackbeauty: LOL yep yep!

@ jaded: thanks hun! yeah, they have those same rules at my museum as well. but these pics were taken with the flash off, so it was okay. i was shocked that the light was so good.

@ a.m.: it really is great! like i said, it does get a little dull at times, especially sense i work 8 hour shifts, but i love it.

i'm from chicago but currently in school at the university of illinois in urbana champaign.

I feel you boring jobs are the worst. Your days/evenings go so damn slow cuz all you're doing is looking at the clock. But at least ya got a job. lol

@ muze: yeah, it really is peaceful. i enjoy it there even though i have to wake up extremely early on weekends. that's the only downside.

@ brother's blog: i think i was made for boring jobs. every job i've ever worked was slow, boring, and tedious. so i'm used to it. at least this job is EXPECTED to be quiet and boring at times. i've worked at retail stores that got no business for hours! now THAT was excruciating.
